Unfortunately the Backbeat Go 810’s do not connect to multiple devices, the maximum number being 2. The headphones are Bluetooth 5.0 compatible, which is better than some headphones in the $350 and above mark. I generally use the Bluetooth in my apartment and it works like a dream. The range is also similar to the range of the Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2 SE. This Bluetooth range is can be achieved when connected with a class 1 Bluetooth device. The range of the backbeat Go 810 is up to 164ft / 50m, which is more than sufficient, as I would personally never be that far away from my device. Plantronics have made a habit of making their headphones class 1 Bluetooth compatible. I have no reason to test out this claim so you are welcome to test it out for yourself and leave a comment below. Plantronics also claim that the headphones can last up to 10 days unused, on standby mode. Quick charging of 10 minutes provides 3 hours of playback time, which is pretty impressive and comparable with some higher end models. When the battery dies out the headphones can be used with the included TSR cable. Without Active noise cancellation on, the headphones can play continuously for up to 28 hours. This is achievable with 2 hours of uninterrupted charging.Īs is the case with most ANC (active noise cancellation) headphones, the Backbeat Go 810 does not play whilst the headphones are being charged. The battery life is actually pretty solid, with 22 hours of uninterrupted playback time. There is also an instruction manual in a wide variety of languages, an instruction manual on the app and a Quick Start guide. The Backbeat Go 810 also has ear cups that fold flat for easy storage so that you can place your headphones in your carry luggage. The Backbeat Go 810 wireless headphones include a 1.8 inch TRS cable. I was able to fit them into my Backbeat Pro 2 SE hard cover carry case. I would have preferred a hardcover carry case, but then again this was probably another area where costs had to be saved.Īt best your headphones may avoid getting scratched, but any hard bumps may be detrimental or even fatal to your poor cans.įortunately for me, I have purchased Plantronics headphones before and given the design of these headphones This is never ideal for me as it increases the risk of the headphones being damaged. The Backbeat Go 810 wireless headphones come in a stitched mesh carry bag. I will often interchange between over-ear headphones and earbuds.įor jogging, earbuds are my preferred headphones, but that does not mean you cannot use the Backbeat Go 810 to Jog. Given the purpose of these headphones, I was looking for something that would not break too easily, and something that could remain on my head for at least 1 full hour without slipping or falling off.ĭepending on my mood or planned activity for the day, Many have called these headphones the younger sibling of the BackBeat Pro 2, so I did a little comparison of the Backbeat Pro 2 vs Backbeat Go 810. The Backbeat Go 810 wireless headphones are so named owing to the fact that the headphones are made for the active person (those on the go). When doing gym workouts the Backbeat Go 810 are some of my favorite cans. I was actually pleasantly surprised, as they performed decently, especially given that they retail for under $150. Then, one day, I happened not to pack my Sony WH-1000XM3 and had to make use of these headphones for an entire day. Compact and flat-folding, these headphones can easily be stored and transported wherever you go.But since I would be using these headphones only for my 1-hour gym session, they only really needed to be on point for an hour a day.Īnd given this expectation, they definitely lived up to what I had hoped. Listen comfortably all day long with a slim, over-the-ear design plus soft memory foam and leatherette. Spend more time listening to the songs you love with up to 22 hours of wireless listening with ANC and up to 26 hours without ANC– enough power to carry you through your longest flights. Balanced and bright EQ presets, available through the BackBeat app, and 40 mm drivers deliver rich, detailed audio wherever your travels take you. Disappear into your music with dual-mode active noise canceling (ANC) that lets you choose how much outside noise you hear, for clear audio from your commute, to the airport and beyond.ĭecide how your music sounds – and feels. Tune into the sounds you love and silence the ones you don’t with the BackBeat GO 810 wireless headphones. Experience the rich audio of the BackBeat GO 810 over-the-ear active noise-canceling (ANC) headphones, featuring dual-mode ANC and up to 22 hours of power.

He had shut the door carefully so as not to wake her up. He shut the door and locked it before leaving. My ranking is exactly that: a personal top ten, reflecting my preferences (I like a nice UI), my approach to productivity (David Allen’s GTD®), my hardware (I am a Mac user), my needs (as a sole operator I have no need for team collaboration features or enterprise–based software) and my experience (I have tested ~30 task management apps over the past two years). Only ten apps will fit into a top–10 after all (I was reasonably good at maths at school). Despite meeting those criteria, Things, a sana, FacileThings and several other pretty solid apps did not make the grade. They are all compatible with David Allen’s Getting Things Done® (GTD®) methodology, capable of supporting basic to complex project management and with at least one mobile app (iPhone or iPad, ideally both). This time around I am opting for an unashamedly impressionistic approach: these are the task management apps I like best. The first time, in a quest for ‘objectivity’, I got bogged down in a treacly mix of scoring apps against criteria that were of my own choosing anyway. This is my second attempt at writing this post. Unique Gag Gifts – These are the ones that defy categorization. Other professions don’t have quite as many options, and in those instances, the giver will have to be very creative. Some professions can be easily connected to hilarious gag gift ideas, such as doctors, lawyers, veterinarians, and bartenders. Professional Gag Gifts – These relate to the person’s profession in some way, or to some professional experience they’ve had in their life. If the gag gift is chosen correctly, as soon as the recipient sees it, they will laugh or smile, realizing what it signifies. They’re designed to bring back memories of humorous situations or make the person reflect on some aspect of his or her life. Personal Gag Gifts – These gag gifts generally reflect some feature of the recipient’s personal life, such as their hobbies, favorite things, or some personal story from their past. There are many different types of gag gifts that fall into three main categories, and each category may not be appropriate for all recipients. Also, if you intend to give the gift at a party, remember to consider who the attendees will be, as it might be construed as inappropriate by some guests. Just remember that gag gifts can be offensive but in the right setting, are great fun. Gags meant to highlight shortcomings or faults will make a person feel bad, while gags targeting special talents are often a hit. Make sure the gift won’t offend the receiver, or hurt their feelings, but cause only good-hearted embarrassment. The key to giving a good gag gift is knowing your recipient and their personality. Although it’s meant for fun and entertainment, we wouldn’t want the fun to last only for a few seconds, and more importantly, we wouldn’t want to offend anyone. Ironically, getting a gag gift requires more thought than a traditional gift. There are creative, disgusting, humorous gag gifts, and even those with overt or masked sexual undertones. There are a wide variety of gag gifts to choose from. It’s more of a prank than a gift.īut why give gag gifts? The answer is simple – laughter is the best gift of all! Besides, gag gifts are as enjoyable to give as they are to receive. Gag gifts are generally defined as items or objects given with the intention of poking fun at the recipient. Here you'll find hilarious gag gifts, this year's best-selling holiday presents and cool gifts your best friend will love. The moment we hear gag gifts, visions of fun, pain, or disgust immediately spring to mind. Of course, you'll want to make sure you bring the best Dirty Santa gift to build some friendly rivalry among your party guests, so we've prepared a roundup of ideas that are both practical and fun. But let's not forget the catch: A gift can't be stolen more than three times. Then starting with player number one, each person decides if they want to open a new gift from the pile or steal someone else's. When the festivities begin, you assign each attendee a number (pick out of a hat to make things fair!). If you're new to giving Dirty Santa gifts, it's easy to participate: A budget is determined ahead of time (think gifts under $30, options under $20 or presents under $10) and each person has to bring a wrapped offering. When playing Dirty Santa, gift-giving becomes a full-on competition, where everyone uses their smarts to take the present they want the most. They're similar to a White Elephant or Secret Santa gift swap, except the rules are a little bit different. Dirty Santa gift exchanges are popular this time of year among family, friends and coworkers. BERGMAL // ROCK LANGUAGEĪs Iceland Naturally explained, this translation is fitting “because an echo typically is bouncing off surrounding rocks or walls, as if it were their way of communicating.” If only someone could translate what they’re saying… 13. Instead of inventing a new character to represent computer, pre-existing characters are combined to yield an entirely new concept. This is partly because it's a logogram-based language, meaning that a character represents a word. DIAN NAO // ELECTRIC BRAINĬhinese can seem quite poetic to non-native speakers. There’s “glowing pear” for light bulb, “go wheel” for bicycle, and “into-the-groundening” for funeral. Itchy Feet, a travel and language comic by Malachi Ray Rempen, illustrates some of the amusing results when German is translated word for word into English. According to the Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern Written Arabic , the Arabic word for cancer stems from a root word meaning “to grab/to swallow,” which yielded the word for lobster. “Cancer of the sea” seems like a harsh moniker for a humble crustacean, but this appears to be another case of multiple meanings. Popcorn is “jumping corn,” a chameleon is “step softly,” and a weed is “look around tobacco.” 9. PAPIER VAMPIER // PAPER VAMPIREĪs The South African notes, there are several Afrikaans words that simply sound funny when they’re translated directly into English. Smorgasbord, which has been adopted into English, starts to make a little more sense when it's interpreted as a sandwich table, or more generally, a buffet offering various dishes. ( Smör also means butter, making smörgås mean either "butter goose" or "butter butter.") Smörgås is taken to mean “bread and butter,” and thus a sandwich. The word gås literally translates to goose, but the Online Etymology Dictionary notes that it also carries a second meaning: a clump (of butter). While this may sound slightly off-putting to English speakers, many Germanic languages use the same word for “warts” and “nipples,” according to The Economist. Why invent a new word when toes are basically the fingers of the feet? At least that seems to be the logic behind the conjoining of these two words in Portuguese, French, Arabic, and a number of other languages. It’s also sometimes called amuse-gueule, meaning the same thing. This one doesn’t translate perfectly into English because the French truly have a monopoly on food terminology, but an amuse-bouche is basically a bite-sized hors d’oeuvre (appetizer, but literally “outside of work”). There's some crossover between Mandarin and Cantonese, two of the main languages spoken in China, but this term is solely used among Cantonese speakers, particularly in Hong Kong. It allegedly stems from greedy priests who, upon receiving the dish from locals, scarfed it down so quickly that they choked, according to BBC Good Food. The legend of how this noodle got its name is just as twisted as the pasta itself. A shark is a “fat fish,” a skunk is a “stink fox,” and a baboon is a “monkey head dog,” which sounds like a terrifying mythical creature you wouldn’t want to cross paths with. Many of the Vietnamese words for animals sound as if a group of comedians went to a zoo and started roasting every creature they saw. In this spirit, we’ve selected 25 of our favorite foreign words and their weird and wonderful literal translations. On the other hand, when done correctly, word-for-word translations-also known as literal or direct translations-can help language learners understand a word’s origin while also providing interesting insight into how different cultures perceive ordinary objects. (See: The Iraqi hotel whose buffet sign misidentified meatballs as “ Paul is dead.”) It's easy to tell when text has been fed through an online translator because certain words and phrases tend to get jumbled up in the process, as evidenced by the many mistranslations posted online every day. Anyone who has ever studied a foreign language knows that translator apps, while helpful, aren’t always reliable. Only three steps to the sand, with no streets or boardwalks to cross.
